Challenges in Launching a New Product

What obstacles await when launching a new product and how to overcome them?

Launching a new product into the market is a complex process that requires meticulous preparation and coordination. Although it may seem that the main challenge lies in the production itself, the real pitfalls often emerge during the launch phase. Here, we will explore key areas where problems may arise and how to effectively address them.

Pre-production Preparation as the Foundation of Success

The first and often underestimated step is thorough pre-production preparation. This includes not only the development and design of the product but also the planning of the entire campaign. In practice, this means that even before the first shot is taken, we must have clearly defined goals, a target audience, and a method for communicating the product's values.

For example, in our production for [segment], [region] — NDA, it was crucial to define how our client wanted to present the product in the market. This involved several weeks of careful planning to ensure that every element of the campaign aligned with the overall marketing strategy.

Choosing the Right Location and Techniques

Location and technique play a crucial role in how the product is perceived. A poorly chosen location can disrupt the overall impression of the campaign, and technical shortcomings can distract from the product itself.

In one of our productions, we had to choose between two locations. One offered great aesthetics but problematic lighting conditions, while the other was not as visually appealing but provided perfect light control. We opted for the latter, which allowed us to highlight the product's key features in optimal lighting.

Creative Intent Versus Budget

One of the biggest challenges in launching a new product is aligning creative intent with the budget. Often, ideas exceed financial possibilities. In such cases, it is important to find a compromise that does not jeopardize the quality of the output.

In one of our productions, we faced a situation where the client demanded a complex scenography with pyrotechnics. However, the budget did not allow for this. We chose an alternative solution — simulating effects using carefully controlled lighting and post-production techniques. The result was visually impressive and financially acceptable.

Team and Supplier Coordination

Coordination among the various components of production is another critical factor. Every team member must have clearly defined tasks and responsibilities to make the process as efficient as possible. This also applies to suppliers, who often provide key components of the production.

In one of our projects, a delay in the delivery of equipment threatened the entire schedule. Thanks to flexible management and the prompt decision to move some scenes to a later date, we managed to minimize the loss of time and finances.

In a production for a tactical optics manufacturer in the DACH region — NDA, we identified an issue with the availability of a key location during preparation. We opted for a backup option, which saved two days of production and allowed us to stay within the planned budget.

Testing and Evaluation Before Launch

Before the actual launch, it is essential to conduct thorough testing and evaluation of the campaign. This includes both the technical aspect (quality control of outputs) and the marketing intent (verification that the message resonates with the target audience).

In the case of the ZERO RANGE campaign, we conducted several internal tests and focus groups before the launch, which revealed that the original message was not clear enough. Based on feedback, we adjusted the communication strategy, leading to a successful market introduction.

Market Reaction and Flexibility

After launching the campaign, it is important to monitor market reactions and be prepared for potential adjustments. Flexibility can determine the success or failure of the product. By quickly adapting to feedback, we can optimize the campaign in real-time, increasing the chances of achieving business goals.

While working with a client in the luxury fashion sector, we noticed that the original visual style did not resonate with the target audience. We immediately made changes to the graphic elements and improved social media engagement by 30% within the first month.

Launching a new product into the market is a complex process that requires careful preparation and the ability to quickly respond to changes. The key to success lies in thorough pre-production preparation, choosing the right location and techniques, effective team coordination, testing, and flexibility in responding to market conditions. These steps ensure that the campaign will not only be visually impressive but also commercially successful.
